Denture maintenance laboratory

Adapt an existing denture as treatment changes

A tooth or clasp addition may allow an existing denture to be adapted. Smart Smile works with your clinic to assess the denture, interpret the prescription and complete the laboratory stage with careful attention to fit and finish.

For dental clinics, dentists and their practice teams.

Assessed case by case

We consider the denture, condition and design alongside the records and prescription your clinic supplies.

Prescription-led workmanship

Tooth or clasp selection, position and acrylic contouring are completed around the prescribed case requirements.

Questions raised early

If the instructions need clarification, we will contact the clinic before the laboratory work proceeds.

A practical maintenance pathway

Adaptation starts with a careful look at the existing denture

An addition can be useful when the current denture remains appropriate for continued service and its design can accommodate the prescribed change. Suitability cannot be determined from the requested changes alone.

When an addition may be considered

The service is commonly discussed when a further natural tooth has been lost or is planned for extraction and an existing removable denture may be suitable for adaptation.

What the laboratory assesses

We review the denture base, available space, retention features, occlusal information and the relationship between the denture and supplied working records.

When another pathway is preferable

If the denture is worn, damaged, poorly fitting or unsuitable for modification, we will explain the laboratory concern so your clinic can consider the next step.

Records that support the addition

Complete information helps us integrate the new tooth carefully

The laboratory needs to understand the existing denture and the planned clinical change. Clear records help us assess the available space, select the prescribed tooth and relate the addition to the current denture.

For best outcomes we require:

  • The cleaned and disinfected denture, identified for the case
  • An accurate impression or working model that captures the denture and relevant extensions
  • Opposing-arch and bite information where required for the case
  • Tooth position, mould and shade instructions
  • Relevant extraction timing, clasp or design notes and any agreed case staging
